WHY THE NAME PARADOXUM?

In today’s world of instant information, where capturing and keeping people’s attention is increasingly difficult, an organization’s name is an important part of its brand. Good names convey what an organization’s mission is in a clear, concise and memorable manner.

Paradoxum comes from the Latin “Paradoxum Ubertitas“, or “The Paradox of Plenty”.  This paradox refers to the fact that countries and regions with an abundance of natural resources – specifically minerals and petroleum – tend to have less economic growth and worse development outcomes than countries with fewer natural resources.

A number of factors contributes to this: volatility of revenues from natural resources, inflationary pressure on non-resource sectors and on the domestic exchange rate as well as a mix of inadequate frameworks, insufficient institutional capacity and governance issues.
